Being Green !!!

1

My last post was about the first few collections of the Men’s Fall 2014 season. For the women, designers are still showcasing the Pre-Fall collections. I can’t get enough of how fast and forward thinking the industry are, I’m still in Spring/Summer 2014 mode. When I was working at Farage, they already had samples and designs ready for 2 seasons ahead. That’s what make the fashion world so exciting, there is always the next season to look forward too. The next few posts will be about the trend that this Pre-Fall collections have in common and the stand out ones. Starting with: GREEN !!!

It’s the men’s world

The Fall 2014 Menswear shows have just started in London and I cannot wait for winter. Well it won’t be long because I am going to visit my sister in the States next Thursday, but that’s another story. Let’s get back to the Men’s shows, so far there are classic suits, sporty knitwear, joggers, prints, checks, plaid, oversize tailoring, fur, ruffles, tunic, PVC and even heels. Designers are certainly pushing the boundary this season so we should have lots of ideas to play with afterward. My favorite moment so far has to be the Topman Design finale where there were rain coming down from the ceiling as the models walked out. It was a dramatic and appropriate ending to a well executed show. It was also dedicated to Bryan McMahon, a incredibly talented fashion editor in London who passed away at such a young age.Fashion has just lost another bright star 😦

Instagraming…Farage

I learned how to photograph ties for online store today and I’d like to show you my favorite ones.I’ve never been very attentive when it come to suits or suit accessories until I started interning at Farage. I realize the importance of attention to details. When you wear a suit with a fabulous matching ties, cufflinks and pocket squares; you just feel confidence and strong. I have got to start paying more attention to those tiny details the next time I wear a suit.Image ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

At the end of the day, while organizing the back room full of paperworks, I heard screaming coming from the showroom. They were screaming of joy because new samples from the upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 collection were ready and the girls were trying them on. They were amazingly sleek, clean and modern. The last jacket is my favorite 😉

Work it !!! (part 1)

What a weekend !!! I got home on Sunday and fall asleep for 14 hours straight. That’s how big it was, and it didn’t include drinking (ok I had two glasses of champagne) or club hopping. It started with waking up at 6.30 in the Saturday morning, get ready and rush off to Farage’s head office and get ready for their look book photo shoot. This is the first photo shoot I have ever been on so you can imagine how excited I was. Racks of clothing, shoes, a suit case of make-up, the beautiful people and lots of food; it was all so surreal. As much as fashion is about individual style, it is also about team work when it come to project such as campaigns, shows and editorials. There were many people there with different roles and opinions, but they only had one objective and that was to have great photos. My jobs ranged from picking up coffees and food to make sure everyone is well fed, to taping up the bottom of new shoes so they won’t get worn away, to picking up garments from stores. It was an incredible experience to witness the professionalism of everyone on the shoot, from the models to the stylist, make-up artist, art director, photographer, creative director, designer and Joe Farage. I was there for more than 11 hours but was still ready for more. Check out more pictures and videos on my instagram.

The art of photoshop.

I started my day going to Farage to help Richelle ( the talented creative director) photograph some shirts from last season for online sale. I have always wanted to learn how to take photo for an online shop, so that was definitely useful learning tricks and tips from Richelle. Check out the pictures I took before which hasn’t been photoshoped.

I also saw this jacket hanging ready to go out to store and had to photograph it

Then Richelle did some editing of the photo. The thing that girl could do with photoshop!!! I never thought it would took that long to edit a product image. Apparently, it could take a week to edit a photo shoot with models. I’ve never bother to explore photoshop when I was in business school because I didn’t need to. However, now that I will be going to design school, it is time to learn some new skills. So I went home, downloaded a trial version of the software and tried a basic editing technique-removing the background. Since I’m not a computer wizard, I am embarrassed to say it took me more than an hour just to remove the background. The result is not perfect (very amateur indeed), but I am proud of my effort. I’ll probably need this just in case I have an online store oneday 😉
